Safaricom has emerged as the leading mobile internet provider in Kenya, surpassing rivals Airtel, Telkom Kenya, and Jamii Telkom, according to a recent customer survey. The survey revealed that Safaricom users reported the most stable internet speeds and the fewest service interruptions compared to users of competing networks.
Safaricom’s Dominance in Internet Speed
The survey found that a small percentage of Safaricom subscribers rated their internet speeds as slow or very slow. Specifically, 4.4% of respondents described the speeds as very slow, while 5.2% rated them as slow. However, the majority of Safaricom users were satisfied with their connection: 13.3% said the speeds were average, 7.6% rated them as fast, and 3.3% described them as very fast. This data highlights Safaricom’s consistent performance, with fewer negative ratings compared to its competitors.
“Safaricom demonstrates the strongest performance among reported responses, though the data is limited by a high ‘don’t know’ share,” the report noted. The findings suggest that Safaricom’s network reliability is a significant factor, with users perceiving more stable internet speeds.
Competitors’ Performance: Airtel, Telkom, and Jamii Telkom
While Safaricom led the rankings, the performance of other mobile providers in Kenya varied. Airtel customers reported mixed satisfaction with internet speeds. Over 10% of Airtel users rated their internet speeds as either slow or very slow. However, 17.3% of Airtel respondents rated the speeds as fast, and 9.3% considered them very fast, showing that a significant portion of users were satisfied with their service.
Jamii Telkom, however, recorded the highest levels of dissatisfaction. The survey found that 17.1% of Jamii Telkom customers described internet speeds as very slow, and 26.8% rated them as slow. Only 16.3% of respondents said the speeds were fast, and 17.1% considered them very fast. This indicates a larger gap in service quality for Jamii Telkom users compared to the other providers.
Telkom Kenya showed a more varied response, with 12.5% of users rating their speeds as very slow, 19.6% as slow, and 17.9% as average. On the positive side, 14.3% of Telkom Kenya users reported fast speeds, while 19.6% rated their speeds as very fast.
Safaricom’s Continued Leadership in Kenya’s Mobile Market
The customer survey confirms Safaricom’s dominance in Kenya’s mobile internet sector. With the highest number of users satisfied with speed and reliability, Safaricom continues to set the bar for mobile internet providers in the country. However, competitors like Airtel, Telkom Kenya, and Jamii Telkom still have room for improvement as they strive to enhance their services and meet the growing demand for fast, reliable mobile internet.
